A Letter to Stephen Fry

I’ve just written a letter to Stephen Fry, asking him for support. I’ve just printed it off and put it in an envelope, just out now to post it. I’ll keep you posted on how this turns out.

Dear Stephen

I have recently set up an organisation and website called Breakthru (http://breakthru.org.uk) whose aim is to support men and women with mental health issues. I also run MEN HEAL (http://menheal.org.uk) which is a mental health support site just for men (for some reason the suicide rate for men is three times higher than for women… I want to do something about this… it is my passion!).

My main passion, as a fellow suffered of depression and anxiety, is to make it better for others, by campaigning and supporting.

I am currently trying to get messages of support from celebrities. You are the third person I have contacted. The first was Brian May from Queen, here is his message of support:

Speaking as a fellow depressive, I want to tell you there IS life after depression.

But it takes big steps.

Take a big step for me.

with love

Can you add a similar message of support to those with a mental health issue. It might relate to combatting stigma, or just giving general support.

You are the wordsmith but there is no pressure for perfection (although I would not deflect any perfectionism). Words from the heart are what are most important, and they tend to come more easily.

I don’t want to come across as a creepy fan who spends the next three to four pages worshipping you, so I won’t do that. But just to say the documentary you did on Bipolar disorder helped a lot of people. So thanks for doing that.

Much kindness

p.s. I’m crapping myself writing to someone who is so good with words! 😉
